JODI AVALOS - FOUNDER OF D.T.L.A. FITNESS, PERSONAL TRAINER AND GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
I've been an athlete my entire life. I began playing basketball when I was in elementary school and continued to play all through high school. I also played volleyball and ran cross country during my high school years. I went from being super active in high school to quite sedentary in college (I played the occasional intra-mural soccer game, but that's about it...) and I noticed a huge difference in my body. Not only did I become inactive, but I also picked up the typical bad habits of a typical college students: drinking and eating poorly. By the time I graduated, I was out of shape and unhappy with my physical appearance; I knew I needed to make a change.
Upon graduation, I moved back home to go to grad school. I was living with my parents once again and my mom asked me if I wanted to go to a personal trainer with her and my little sister. I couldn't say "YES!!!" fast enough. I went to this trainer for the next two and a half years. I learned how to eat clean and how to lift weights... This changed my life. Within months, I was in the best shape of my life; I was in better shape at this point than I was when I was in high school. My trainer was a body-builder and the thoughts of competing myself began to enter my mind. I decided to get certified to be a personal trainer myself, even though I went to school to for Fine Arts Education. When I struggled to find a teaching position, I figured that I could always use the personal training as a backup plan... I eventually found a teaching position in Los Angeles, packed up, and made the move!
My first teaching assignment was great, but I couldn't help but follow my entrepreneurial spirit. I left teaching in 2014 to start D.T.L.A. Fitness and put my fitness skills to work. Over the next 5 years I took D.T.L.A. Fitness from a one-person mobile training business to a physical studio with employees. I am happy to say that I have now returned to teaching and grateful that I am able to pursue two great passions in my life!
MY TRAINING STYLE
As a competitor in the NPC and cross country coach, my love and my specialty, in regards to my training style is muscle and strength building and cardio endurance. These two things combined are the perfect combination for a successful weight loss program. Watching bodies transform is one of the most amazing things to witness; knowing that I have a hand in such transformations is truly a feeling like none-other.
What most people, particularly females, do not realize is that building muscle is the key to weight loss. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you are going to burn while you are sedentary. Women will not get "bulky" or "too muscular" from lifting weights because they do not naturally produce enough testosterone to do so. So to my ladies out there... Let's pick up those dumbbells and start lifting!!
As a certified trainer I am able to work around injuries and medical conditions and with people of all ages, sizes, and capabilities. GARY LOPEZ - PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Gary Lopez is a Los Angeles-based, certified personal and group fitness trainer. With over 15 years within the sports and strength training field, Gary’s dynamic approach and high energy only add to the enjoyment his clients experience in each session. Gary's personable nature, extensive knowledge and passionate drive have allowed him and his clients to excel and succeed.
A Southern California native, Gary grew up with outdoor activities being his outlet and competitive sports building the blueprint to disciplined and determined attitude he now has towards health and fitness. Not just a trainer, but a relatable coach. Gary understands the desire to want a healthy lifestyle and the journey it takes to get there. Like many, he found himself wanting to disconnect from the unhealthy path and find the healthy life he was meant to live. Fitness became his answer and undoubtedly became his passion and purpose. His journey of self discovery became a traveling one as he found himself in LA, Miami and NYC deeply involved in the diverse and continuously growing training world. Gary gained a lot of knowledge on what makes a good trainer. He was able to build a greater skill of helping people change their lives by adapting clients' training programs to who they are and their individual goals.
Gary emphasizes strength training models for clients of all demographics. His customized programs transfer into his clients daily lives like postural improvements, creating better habits and increasing energy. He helps his clients make positive changes in their routine by creating a daily nutrition plan, encouraging healthy habits and emphasizing the importance of rest and recovery.
He is driven by a strong desire to help change the lives of many. Leading with a strong example of dedication and positive productivity, he sets an example of how others can unlock their inner abilities and achieve their highest potential.

LESLIE DUNER - PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Leslie Duner received her BFA in Dance performance from Chapman University. She received her Pilates Mat and Apparatus Certification in New York soon after. Leslie was voted one of NYC top 11 trending fitness instructors by ratemyburn. She has taught a variety of personal training and classes ranging from Endurance, Strength, Cardio, Circut Training, HIIT, TRX and Pilates. Leslie is a current dancer in the Los Angeles area. Her class is energetic and creative. She hopes to enhance her client’s strength, stamina, flexibility, and mental clarity while helping them to achieve their fitness goals.

SALMANNSA (SAL) RODGERS - GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Sal is originally from Sweden and moved to LA in 2011. She has worked as a model for 12 plus years, both in Sweden and LA. Sal discovered her passion for fitness back in 2015 and has now made it part of her daily lifestyle.
She has 3 years of fitness experience including Yoga training for beginners and she specializes in Glute training (Booty Building), Weight training, Body Sculpting, and Nutrition.

MI'CHELLE MCDOWELL - PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Mi’Chelle’s love for fitness goes back to her childhood days playing sports, dancing, and gymnastics. Originally from Atlanta, she moved to Los Angeles in 2013. She is extremely motivated; she strives to be the best in everything that she does, enjoys new challenges, and has an extreme passion for helping others to learn their greatest potential. She originally received her NASM Personal Trainer Certification in 2014, along with certifications as a Corrective Exercise Specialist, and a Fitness Nutrition Specialist. Fitness definitely is more of a passion than just a job!

LAURA LUCAS - PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Laura is an ACE certified Personal Trainer and Health Coach. She studied Heath Psychology and Business at USC and applies her psychology background towards helping her clients building healthy lifestyle habits. Utilizing motivation and change theory, she brings a unique perspective to her health and fitness coaching.
Laura grew up in Camarillo, California as a varsity cross county runner and soccer athlete. After injuring herself long-distance running, she discovered the joy in strength training and began teaching fitness to spread her passion for lifting weights.
Laura believes in leading by example. She is an active OCB Bikini Competitor and enjoys training for fitness competitions to challenge herself and inspire her students.
Though she specializes in bodybuilding and fat loss, she also practices yoga and studies functional diagnostic nutrition to promote healing through food and mindfulness. Laura has helped many people reach their ideal body composition and has helped improve their overall health and happiness. You will often hear her say, “Start with the end in mind. If you can see it, you can achieve it”.
